My work

I see all of my paintings as snapshots of a moment in time, be it past or present.

I work in a variety of media from oil, acrylic and various mixed media. I love soft, sensual oil pieces, but I also work frequently with raw layers of acrylic paint and different media. I have no interest in realism. Some of my work is striking and shocking. Some of it isn't. I paint simply because it's what I love to do. I enjoy large, vibrant pieces that fill a wall space.Something you just cant help but look at.

My work is expressionist by nature, and demands a physical participation with the painting itself. Each piece has a variety of textural elements from impasto, black lava, glass beads, newspaper and sand to name just a few. I build these into many layers, offering depth and possibly something new emerges each time you look closely.

I drip, wash, pour, throw and scrape to make marks on the canvas, and rarely use a brush. I destroy areas i've worked and paint again, leaving just a little history behind each time. The painting takes on a life of its own and it's a seductive process.I embrace and connect with nature, passion and emotions.

By contrast, my oil work is soft, sensual and again, the process of painting is a seductive act. Gestural strokes convey the intrinsic qualities of an imagined landcape.
